Why is this player being nominated?
U11 T2’s player of the month for March is Travis Riedstra. Travis decided to change from a right handed stick to a left handed stick at the start of the season recognizing that he felt more comfortable as a lefty. This was a huge undertaking at this point in his young hockey career. Travis never made an excuse and worked tirelessly to adapt his game, showing continuous improvement with his shot and puck handling ability throughout the season with this change of hand. Furthermore, his blistering speed, combined with his tenacity and positive attitude, made Travis a respected leader and impact player on the team as a reliable and skilled two-way defenseman.
Highlight a specific moment or example that reflects their contribution this month:
In game 2 of the second round of playoffs against Kneehill, players voted unanimously to have Travis wear the “C†and captain the team for this critical game. This demonstrates the level respect Travis has from his peers, which is a reflection of his talent, work ethic and attitude.
Travis’s favourite hockey moments from this season include beating Canmore in the first round of playoffs, and the pre-game introduction in round 2 of playoffs against Kneehill where his team was introduced onto the ice and did warm up to an incredible light show and music.
