About the Launch and What It Means for CMHA Families

We’re thrilled to partner with 1616, a free, virtually delivered program designed for hockey players aged 10-12—and their coaches and caregivers—to support whole-athlete and whole-family development. Over 10 weeks, participants engage with powerful video lessons featuring NHL and international pros, along with practical tools like on-ice drills, reflection questions, and “car-ride home” conversation starters. 1616 is rooted in the 4C’s of positive youth development: Character, Connection, Confidence, and Competence—ensuring young athletes are equipped both on and off the ice.

This season marks a milestone for CMHA. As we launch 1616 within our community, we’re also unveiling our refreshed Core Values and Culture—a set of guiding principles designed to build stronger teams, foster resilient leadership, and develop athletes who thrive not just in the game, but in life.

Cochrane Minor Hockey Association (CMHA) was established in 1981 and has since grown into one of the fastest-growing hockey associations in Alberta. Today, CMHA is comprised of approximately 1,200 youth players and more than 500 dedicated volunteers.

Our program is built on a strong foundation of community hockey, enhanced by supplemental development opportunities, and further expanded through high-performance pathways with our Bow Valley AA Timberwolves, AAA Timberwolves, and AA Chaos teams.

At the heart of CMHA is a committed community of volunteers who support minor hockey both on and off the ice. We are dedicated to empowering young athletes by cultivating core values that extend beyond the rink. More than just skill development, our program serves as a platform for personal growth, teamwork, and character building.
