Message from the President

CMHA Members,

Please forgive the length of this email, but it is important to go through it entirely.

Cochrane Minor Hockey Association (CMHA) continues to grow at a remarkable pace, with most age groups now at full capacity. This growth is a testament to the vibrant hockey community we have here in Cochrane and area. As we approach team evaluations, we want to remind everyone that this can be an emotional time for players and families. We encourage all members to remain calm and patient throughout the process. Our Board of Directors and evaluation team have worked diligently to maintain a process that is independent, fair, and aligned with CMHA’s brand.

Recognizing the growth and stature of our association, now one of the largest in Alberta, we have decided to adopt development models utilized by some of the province’s most successful associations. For example, we have looked to associations like St. Albert, which have achieved notable success. After thorough research and consultation with Hockey Alberta and other leading associations, we believe that this new development model will help us tailor our approach to reflect CMHA’s unique player identity moving forward.

We are also pleased to introduce a key addition to our team:

Cochrane Minor Hockey Association Announces New Development Manager

CMHA is excited to announce the appointment of David Brodmann as our new Development Manager. This newly created part-time position is designed to manage and elevate our player development programs under the direct supervision of the Board of Directors and the Player Development Team, ensuring a comprehensive approach to skill enhancement and growth for all players.

In his role as Development Manager, David will:

  • Hire and manage third-party skills coaches to ensure compliance with CMHA policies and the development framework established by the Board and Player Development Team.
  • Manage and administer ice time effectively, ensuring optimal use of resources for training sessions and player development activities.
  • Execute and manage all aspects of the player development programs as directed by the Board of Directors and the Player Development Team.
  • Develop and implement strategies to optimize player performance in alignment with the goals set by the Board and Player Development Team.
  • Coordinate training sessions and coaching resources, ensuring all activities meet the standards and objectives outlined by the Board and Player Development Team.
  • Oversee the management of development budgets and resources, working closely with the Board of Directors to ensure fiscal responsibility and transparency.
  • Collaborate with coaches, staff, and Vice Presidents (VPs) to support player and coach growth, while ensuring all actions align with directives from the Board and Player Development Team.
  • Ensure adherence to all CMHA policies and procedures as mandated by the Board of Directors.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities as required or assigned by the Board of Directors or the Player Development Team.

David brings extensive business leadership experience, which will be invaluable as he manages CMHA’s Player and Coach Development program in the upcoming season. His past roles as the President and Chief Operating Officer of International Fitness Holdings (World Health, Spa Lady) and as the President and Co-Founder of BEST Canada Energy have equipped him with the skills needed to lead our development initiatives.

We are excited to welcome David to the Association and look forward to the positive impact he will have in his new role.
